Tinos HotelsHotels in TinosTinos is the third largest island of the Cyclades
after Naxos and Andros, the island is divided
administratively into two municipalities, the
municipality of Exobourgos and the community of
Panormos. It is a mostly a hilly island. Its highest peak is the mountain Tsiknias with 726 m. altitude. Tinos unlike the nearby Andros is a not very fertile island. The lack of trees has caused landslides largely due to rain weather, the soil is completely washed by rain and farmers in Tinos have proceeded to create a system of terraces on the mountains and hills. The few farming that is here are olives, lemon trees, fig trees, olive groves and vineyards that produces local wine. Very popular is the oregano from Tinos and the capers. The slender coastal plain of Tinos is more fertile. Tinos island is a major destination for religious tourism for the Greeks, in Tinos is the church of Virgin Mary with an icon of Mary that has healing powers. The island in August is packed with Greek Orthodox Christians pilgrims from all over Greece. For the foreign tourists Tinos is still relatively off from the packages of mass tourism, this is a reason that the island attracts sophisticated Greeks and intellectuals who thy want to enjoy their holidays in a quiet corner of Greece far from the mass tourism.
