Kasos is an island of the Dodecanese rich in history from the
Greek Antiquity until the early 19th century. During the ancient
times Kasos was known for its shipping and commerce a rich and
wealthy island. During the Ottoman occupation the island had
suffered because of its participation to the Greek war of
independence with its huge fleet.
The capital of the island is Fry where you will find the most
hotels and other accommodations. Other places of interest is the
village of Agia Marina where most of the population lives, both
Fry and Agia Marina have a lot of traditional stone houses from
the 19th century.
There are some interesting museums to visit especially the
archaeological collection in the city hall in Fry. In
Arvanitochorio you will find a folk museum and many festivals
and activities are organised there in the summer.
There are some nice beaches on the island and the nightlife is
active in bars with music, you will find many Greek eateries and
fish taverns with excellent Greek cuisine.
the island has an airport where you can fly from Athens. You can
get there with ferry from Rhodes, Crete, Karpathos and Piraeus.
