Halkidiki is a peninsula of central Macedonia in Greece,to the north it
borders with the prefecture of Thessaloniki, while to the south, east and
west coast with the Aegean. In the south resulting in three peninsulas:

the east.

History. The first colonization of the peninsula began in the 8th BC century

Kassandreia and Antigoneia. In Halkidiki fled in the 6th BC century the
tyrant Pisistratus of Athens, and having such a base attempted to seize
back the rule of Athens. In 480 BC the most of the cities of Halkidiki
subdued to Xerxes when he passed thence to his campaign in southern
Greece. After the Medic wars, most of the cities of Halkidiki joined the
Athenian alliance. During the Peloponnesian War, many cities went with the
Spartans. Thus in 423 BC The Athenians had only the peninsula of Pallene. After
the Peloponnesian War, the cities of Halkidiki formed under the leadership
of Olynthus "The union of Chalcideans in Thrace. "A unique example of
federal states of the antiquity: all members had common laws, and everyone
was citizen of that state. The federation disintegrated from internal
contrasts in 379 BC. After the capture of Chalkidiki from Philip ceased to
show remarkable history. Excavations in Olynthos and Potidea unearthed
ancient settlement of the Neolithic era. Halkidiki played important role
in the revolution of 1821.
Today Halkidiki has become one of the most significant tourist areas of
Greece. The 2 peninsulas of Sithonia and Kassandra has a developed tourist
